Susan certified as an AQS quilt appraiser in 1994. Besides appraising quilts, she has other related interests which increase her knowledge of the subject and enhances her appraisal skills: quiltmaking teacher; antique quilt, toy sewing machine, and sewing tools collector; author, and researcher.

Currently, she is a Research Associate for The Quilters Hall of Fame. Previously, she served on the Acquisition Board of the New England Quilt Museum and for ten years, she was an active member of The Connecticut Quilt Search Project serving on the Board of Directors and the photography chairman, auditor and book committee member.

As an author, she co-authored Quilts and Quiltmakers Covering Connecticut. This book is a culmination of ten years of documentation and research and shows more than 145 outstanding and diverse quilts from Connecticut. Beyond the wonderful colors and shapes of the quilts are the fascination stories of their makers, women and men whose lives were interwoven in Connecticut’s rich history. For the book The Quilter’s Hall of Fame, she authored Lenice Bacon: From Fascination to Fulfillment

Besides being an active member of PAAQT, she is also a member of the Sunbonnet Sue Quilt Guild, The Sunshine State Quilt Guild, The American Quilters Society, and The American Quilt Study Group.

Susan states, “Quiltmaking and all of its sidelines provide for me personal growth and invaluable experiences. Most of all I meet wonderful people and have been blest with lasting friendships for which I am truly thankful."
