BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH OF CAROL ELMORE
Carol Elmore lives in Manhattan, Kansas. She has graduate degrees from the
University of Missouri-Columbia and currently works as a librarian at Kansas
State University at the Veterinary Medical Library and also serves as the
Riley County Law Librarian.
Carol has been making and collecting quilts for more than twenty-five years
and is an appraiser of quilts and other quilted textiles, receiving her
American Quilter’s Society certification in 1995. She gives lectures and
workshops on quilt history, quilt dating, appraising and hand piecing. She
and her husband Ron have a special interest in quilts of U.S. Presidents and
in quilts and fabrics depicting dogs. Carol is a member of the Konza Prairie
Quilt Guild (Manhattan, Kansas), the American Quilt Study Group, the American
Quilter’s Society, Kansas Quilters Organizations, and the Professional
Association of Appraisers—Quilted Textiles. Carol and her husband, Ronnie,
have published quilt articles in American Quilter Magazine and Uncoverings:
Research Papers of the American Quilt Study Group. The Elmores were featured
in the October, 1998, issue of American Patchwork and Quilting on their mutual
interest in quilts. Carol also judges quilt shows and has recently judged the
Oklahoma Winter Quilt Show in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma in 2002 and 2003. She
will be judging the San Antonio, Texas, Quilt Show in the fall of 2003.
Lectures:
1. Quilt Appraisal Facts and Fallacies - Carol uses quilts from her own
personal collection to illustrate the points of this lecture and will also do
individual appraisals after this lecture.
2. History of Quilt Making from 3400 B.C. to the Present - Carol uses a
combination of quilts and pictures to illustrate quilt history.
3. Life and Quilts of Ida Stover Eisenhower, Mother of Dwight D. Eisenhower -
This is a slide lecture featuring Eisenhower family history and quilts made by
Ida Eisenhower.
4. Gone to the Dogs - Quilts and fabrics featuring canine friends - trunk
show with some slides.
Workshops:
1. Dating Antique Quilts and Fabrics - participants bring antique quilts or
tops they want identified and Carol brings fabric, quilts and tops from her
own
collection.
2. Hand Piecing Miniature Quilts from Vintage and Reproduction Fabric - Carol
teaches hand-piecing techniques that are adapted to miniature or small quilts
in this workshop.
3. Your Own Scottie Collectible - Pieced Scottie block for pillow bases in
vintage fabric.
