Dawn Hunt
Dawn Hunt has been
involved in quilting for more than 25 years. Dawn is an accredited member of
both the International Society of Appraisers and the Canadian Personal Property
Appraisers Group and is certified by the American Quilter’s Society (AQS) as a
quilt appraiser specialist. Her formal studies have included the ‘History of
Quilting’ through the University of Nebraska, AQS Appraisal Skills, and The
Quilters Hall of Fame, Quilt Dating.
Dawn is a member of
local guilds and national level quilt associations including the Canadian
Quilters’ Association, the American Quilter’s Society, the Professional
Association of Appraisers Quilted Textiles and the American Quilt Study Group.
In the coming months Dawn, along with other Canadian appraisers and quilt
historians, will be initiating a renewal of a national association dedicated to
the pursuit of Canadian Quilt Study.
As a quiltmaker, she
has won awards including Best of Show and Ribbon of Merit at the 2002 Calgary
Stampede and Exhibition, as well as a ribbon at the 2003 Vermont Quilt
Festival. In addition
to appraising for individual clients, appraisal days can also be arranged for
guilds, shops, museums or quilt show venues. Lectures and workshops on a
variety of quilt related topics, including the various needs for and uses of
quilt appraisals; quilting history; and, quilt conservation and preservation,
are also available. Dawn will
travel throughout Western Canada, please contact her for information on rates
